What is Polaris?
Polaris is a self-hosted music streaming server, open-source and without a paid version, which turns any server into a private listening service for your collection. It indexes the music present on the disk and streams it via a polished web interface and dedicated mobile apps, without ever uploading your files to a third party.
Written in Rust for speed and reliability, Polaris focuses exclusively on music — no movies, books, or podcasts — and is optimized for very large libraries while remaining lightweight. It supports a wide range of formats : FLAC, MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, OPUS, APE, WAV, and AIFF, including high fidelity.
Multiple user accounts, playlists, search, and metadata complete the experience. Managed by DINAO, Polaris gives you access to your music from any device, while keeping your collection and listening habits confidential, on French servers.
Host Polaris at DINAO
No managed container for Polaris: this application is installed on a VPS hosted in France (1 vCPU / 512 Mo / 5 Go minimum).
Application available on a VPS
This application requires privileged access to the host machine, which is incompatible with managed shared hosting. It is installed on a VPS (virtual private server) that you administer: DINAO delivers it with Docker and the management panel of your choice, and you install and maintain Polaris yourself. The VPS is not managed by DINAO unless you add the managed-services option when ordering.

Does Polaris replace Spotify?
To listen to your own collection anywhere, yes : Polaris streams your files from your server to the web and mobile apps. It does not provide a commercial catalog : you listen to the music you already own.
Do I need to upload my music to a third party?
No. Polaris streams directly from your DINAO instance storage. Your files are never sent to an external platform : they stay on your French server.
Where are the data hosted?
On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your library and listening history never leave the territory.
Do I need technical skills?
No for usage : the interface is ready to use. DINAO handles installation, indexing, security, and updates. You just need to drop your files.
What audio formats are supported?
Polaris supports the main formats : FLAC, MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, OPUS, APE, WAV, and AIFF — including lossless high-fidelity files.
