Overview

What is HFS (HTTP File Server)?

HFS (HTTP File Server), developed by Massimo Melina (Rejetto), is a open source web server specialized in publishing and sharing files. Unlike traditional web servers, it is designed to work "out of the box": in just a few minutes, you make your files available via a simple and accessible web interface.

Its key feature is the virtual file system: you organize, rename, or hide what you share without ever touching the original files, and can even share a single file under a different name. HFS handles resumable uploads and downloads, real-time transfer monitoring, bandwidth limiting, and user accounts with permissions.

Extensible via a plugin system (thumbnails, LDAP, 2FA, quotas, chat, subtitles…), HFS adapts to many use cases. Self-hosted on your DINAO instance version 3 (modern and secure), your files and shares remain in France, under your control.

What is the virtual file system?

HFS separates what your visitors see from the actual organization of your files: you can share, rename, or hide content, even a single file, without ever moving or touching the original files.

Do interrupted transfers resume?

Yes. HFS handles resuming downloads and uploads after an interruption, with real-time monitoring of all transfers.

Can shares be protected?

Yes. HFS manages user accounts and folder permissions, public or password-protected shares, and plugins for 2FA, LDAP, and quotas.

Where are my files hosted?

On the DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your files never leave the territory.

Which version of HFS is deployed?

We deploy HFS version 3, the modern and actively maintained edition. The older versions 2.3/2.4, which are vulnerable, are not used.
