Overview

What is Sharkey?

Sharkey is a decentralized social network software, a modern fork of Misskey, that allows you to host your own instance connected to the Fediverse. Thanks to the ActivityPub protocol, your instance exchanges data with Mastodon, Misskey, and thousands of other servers, without belonging to any centralized platform.

The experience is rich and customizable: custom emoji reactions, discussion threads, quotes, MFM formatting, themes, widgets, and a smooth interface. Sharkey also exposes a Mastodon-compatible API, allowing you to use many existing Fediverse client applications.

On the administration side, you retain control over moderation, registration rules (open, invitation-only, closed), and the instances you federate with. Built on PostgreSQL, Redis and queue workers, with S3 media storage, Sharkey deploys via Docker for a sovereign and controlled community.
