What is Photofield?

Photofield is an self-hosted photo gallery, distributed as a single binary, designed around one obsession: speed and simplicity. Where other galleries struggle beyond a few thousand images, Photofield smoothly scrolls through over 100,000 photos, from overview to the finest detail.

Its approach is deliberately non-invasive: it reads directly from the filesystem, requires no heavy database, and never modifies your original photos. You can use it standalone or as a complement to another gallery solution. The tags you add are stored separately, not written into the files.

Light on resources, it runs comfortably on a modest server while remaining responsive. It supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF formats, as well as video, making it an ideal viewer for large photographic archives.

No. Photofield is non-invasive: it reads your folders directly without ever touching the original files. Tags are stored separately, not in the photos.

How many photos can it handle?

Many. Photofield is specifically designed for speed on very large collections: beyond 100,000 photos, navigation remains smooth with continuous zoom.

What formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF, as well as video (with some usability limits). DINAO tunes the instance according to your formats and volume.

Where are the data hosted?

On the DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available datacenters. Your photos never leave the territory.

Can I retrieve my photos at any time?

Yes. Since Photofield reads your folders without transforming them, your files remain in their original format, exportable at any time.
