Overview

What is Autobase?

Autobase is an automated database platform for PostgreSQL — essentially, your own self-hosted DBaaS. It serves as an open-source alternative to managed cloud databases (Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Azure Database) and enables the creation and administration of highly available PostgreSQL clusters ready for production.

Autobase automates deployment, automatic failover, backups, restoration, updates, and scaling. The stated goal is to simplify operations, reduce operational costs, and make database management accessible even to teams without deep PostgreSQL expertise.

Deployment is managed via a console (UI), command line, or GitOps. Developed over several years (formerly « postgresql_cluster »), the project is used in production in demanding environments. It targets teams that want the robustness of a managed DBaaS while keeping their data sovereign.

Host Autobase at DINAO

No managed container for Autobase: this application is installed on a VPS hosted in France (2 vCPU / 2 Go / 10 Go minimum).

Application available on a VPS

This application requires privileged access to the host machine, which is incompatible with managed shared hosting. It is installed on a VPS (virtual private server) that you administer: DINAO delivers it with Docker and the management panel of your choice, and you install and maintain Autobase yourself. The VPS is not managed by DINAO unless you add the managed-services option when ordering.

Where is the data hosted?

On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available datacenters. Your databases do not leave the territory.

Are technical skills required?

To operate the database (queries, schemas, applications), yes, developer skills are useful. But all cluster operations — HA, backups, updates — are handled by DINAO.

Can I change plans or export my data?

Yes. You can scale up or down at any time, and your data remains exportable (standard PostgreSQL dumps) — no proprietary lock-in.
