What is Autobase?

Autobase is an automated database platform for PostgreSQL — essentially, your own self-hosted DBaaS. It serves as an open-source alternative to managed cloud databases (Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Azure Database) and enables the creation and administration of highly available PostgreSQL clusters ready for production.

Autobase automates deployment, automatic failover, backups, restoration, updates, and scaling. The stated goal is to simplify operations, reduce operational costs, and make database management accessible even to teams without deep PostgreSQL expertise.

Deployment is managed via a console (UI), command line, or GitOps. Developed over several years (formerly « postgresql_cluster »), the project is used in production in demanding environments. It targets teams that want the robustness of a managed DBaaS while keeping their data sovereign.
