Overview

What is Waline?

Waline is a simple, lightweight, and secure self-hosted commenting system, presented as a free alternative to Disqus. It integrates easily with blogs and static sites (Hugo, Hexo, VuePress…) via a compact widget.

Its backend relies on Node.js (ThinkJS framework) and its interface on Vue.js. Waline supports numerous databases — SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, TiDB… — as well as Markdown, reactions, notifications (email, Telegram, WeChat…) and login via social accounts.

Deployable in Docker or serverless, Waline is here managed by DINAO : installation, database, HTTPS, backups and updates are handled, offering you modern, fast comments that respect your readers' privacy.

How is it better than Disqus?

Disqus funds its free offer through advertising and tracking of your readers. With Waline managed by DINAO, there is no advertising tracking: comments remain on your servers in France, without imposed advertising banners.

On which sites can I install it?

Waline integrates very well with static sites (Hugo, Hexo, VuePress, Gatsby…) as well as traditional sites. Integration is done via a small JavaScript widget to paste into your pages.

Do my readers need to create an account?

No, anonymous commenting (with name/email) is possible. Waline also offers, as an option, login via social accounts for more convenience.

Where are comments stored?

In a database on your DINAO instance in France (SQLite, PostgreSQL or MySQL depending on the plan). Your data does not leave the territory.

Can I change plans or export my data?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and your comments remain exportable — no proprietary lock-in.
