Mature and proven, phpBB focuses on security, usability, and performance. It offers hierarchical forums and sub-forums with granular permissions, private messages, user, group, and role management, built-in full-text search, and advanced moderation tools (moderation queue, warnings, bans).
Written in PHP, it works with the database of your choice (MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQLite) and supports multilingualism as well as anti-spam protections (CAPTCHA). Distributed under the GPL-2.0 license, it is the reference solution for managing an online community.
