What is PeerTube?
PeerTube is a free, federated, and decentralized video hosting and streaming platform, developed by the French association Framasoft. It allows you to create your own video instance — the equivalent of a standalone YouTube — with channels, playlists, subscriptions, comments, video on demand, and live streaming.
Its technical features are twofold : ActivityPub federation, which connects your instance to the rest of the Fediverse to share and follow videos beyond your platform ; and peer-to-peer streaming (WebTorrent), where viewers' browsers help each other reduce server load during audience peaks.
PeerTube handles transcoding in multiple resolutions up to 4K, S3-compatible object storage, remote transcoding runners, and fine-grained visibility control (public, unlisted, private).
