Cypht is a lightweight open-source webmail whose concept is summarized by its authors as: « like a news reader, but for emails ». Rather than replacing your existing accounts, Cypht aggregates them in a unified interface. Its strength is precisely this combined view: viewing messages from multiple accounts (professional, personal, secondary…) on a single screen, while remaining a standard email client capable of navigating IMAP folders and sending via SMTP.

Cypht supports a wide range of protocols: IMAP and SMTP (the classic foundation), POP3, as well as modern standards JMAP and EWS (Exchange Web Services) to integrate with Microsoft Exchange. This versatility allows aggregating accounts from practically any provider. Beyond email, Cypht includes an RSS/Atom feed reader, true to its « news reader for emails » metaphor.

The architecture is one of its strengths: the application is entirely built from modules (module sets) executed by a central framework. Enabling, disabling, or developing a feature never touches the core of the software. This design makes Cypht both lightweight and highly customizable, with particular attention paid to security.

Technically, Cypht is written in PHP and JavaScript, under the LGPL-2.1 license, which encourages free use and modification. The typical use case: a user or small organization wishing to regain control of distributed messaging across multiple accounts, without relying on a proprietary webmail.
