Your collaborative Markdown notes, in France
Co-author in real time in Markdown : meeting minutes, documentation, presentations. CodiMD is installed and maintained by DINAO, your content remains on our French servers.
What is CodiMD?
CodiMD is an open-source, real-time collaborative Markdown editor that can be self-hosted. A successor to HackMD, it allows multiple people to edit the same document simultaneously, with each cursor identified — the ideal tool for meeting minutes, team documentation, or shared note-taking.
Beyond standard Markdown, CodiMD supports tables, syntax highlighting for code, MathJax mathematical formulas, Mermaid and UML diagrams, as well as a presentation mode based on reveal.js. The preview displays live next to the text, and each note can be exported as PDF, HTML, or Markdown.
Regarding governance, CodiMD manages fine-grained permissions per document (read, write, public or private links), authenticates via local accounts, SSO/OIDC, LDAP, or SAML, and relies on SQLite or PostgreSQL. Lightweight and fast, it offers a sovereign, lock-in-free alternative to proprietary collaborative editors.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
How does CodiMD differ from Google Docs?
CodiMD is open source and self-hosted: real-time collaboration happens in Markdown, on your own server in France. Your texts do not pass through any third-party cloud and are not read by any editor.
Do I need to know Markdown?
Basic knowledge is sufficient and can be learned in a few minutes. CodiMD offers a live preview, a toolbar, and support for tables, code, formulas, and diagrams to go further.
Can multiple people write at the same time?
Yes. CodiMD is designed for real-time collaborative editing: each participant has their own identified cursor and sees others' changes instantly.
How are access rights managed?
Each document has configurable permissions (read-only, write, public or private link). Global access can be protected by SSO, OIDC, LDAP, or SAML depending on your tier.
Can I retrieve my documents if I leave?
Yes. Everything is exportable in Markdown, HTML, or PDF, and the database remains yours. Since CodiMD is open source, there is no proprietary lock-in.
