What is Tinode?

Tinode is an open-source instant messaging platform, designed mobile-first and presented as a free alternative to WhatsApp or Telegram (without XMPP compatibility). Its server is written in Go and is easy to self-host.

It offers all the features expected of a modern messaging app: one-on-one conversations, groups, and channels with unlimited read-only subscribers, audio and video calls, voice messages, file sharing, and synchronization of exchanges across all devices.

On the technical side, Tinode provides web, Android, and iOS clients, bindings (Java, JavaScript, Swift), and gRPC support for many languages, as well as optional storage (SQLite, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, RethinkDB). Its architecture focuses on scalability, security, and extensibility, making it a solid foundation for a sovereign enterprise messaging solution.
