What is Tautulli?

Tautulli (formerly PlexPy) is a web application for monitoring, analytics, and notifications dedicated to Plex Media Server. It monitors streaming activity in real time—who is watching what, when, where, and under what playback conditions—maintains a global, viewable, and filterable history, and provides detailed statistics per user and per library, with rich charts.

It also sends customizable notifications (newly added content, playback activity) through numerous channels. Tautulli connects to your Plex server via the Plex API and an authentication token: it is a supervision complement, not a replacement for Plex.

Technically, Tautulli is written in Python and includes a SQLite database (no external DBMS to install), with a low memory footprint. Hosted by DINAO in France, it gives you complete visibility into your media server usage while keeping your statistics private and GDPR compliant.

Does Tautulli replace Plex?

No. Tautulli supervises an existing Plex server: it connects to it via the Plex API and a token. You therefore need a functional Plex Media Server; Tautulli reveals its usage and statistics.
