Measure your network latency, hosted in France
The open source reference for latency measurement by Tobi Oetiker (author of RRDtool and MRTG), installed and maintained by DINAO. Your probes, graphs, and histories remain on our French servers — no network metrics leave to a third party.
What is SmokePing?
SmokePing is the reference tool for measuring and monitoring network latency. Created by Tobi Oetiker — author of RRDtool and MRTG — it sends regular probes to your targets and captures not only the response time, but also its distribution (the famous « smoke ») and packet loss. The result is stored durably in RRDtool and presented as interactive graphs that instantly reveal any degradation in link quality.
Its strength lies in its wide range of probes (FPing, DNS, HTTP(S), Curl, and many others), its advanced alarm system capable of triggering on configurable latency patterns, and its Master/Slave mode, which measures the same target from multiple observation points. Written in Perl and released under the GPL-2.0 license, it is fully customizable and extensible.
Managed by DINAO, SmokePing runs in a dedicated container hosted in France: your probes, targets, and histories remain on our sovereign servers, GDPR compliant. You benefit from the power of a professional monitoring tool without managing its installation, probes, or updates.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
What exactly does SmokePing measure?
SmokePing sends regular probes to your targets (servers, links, providers) and measures latency, its variation (jitter), and packet loss. All of this is stored in RRDtool and displayed as « smoke » graphs that reveal a link's stability at a glance.
What probes can I use?
Standard probes cover FPing (ping/packet loss), DNS, HTTP(S), and Curl. The Perl-based architecture is extensible: probes for specific protocols can be added based on your needs (upon request).
Where are my monitoring data hosted?
On DINAO's French infrastructure, in one of the available data centers. Your probes, targets, and RRD histories never leave the territory and are not transmitted to any third party.
Can I monitor from multiple sites?
Yes. SmokePing supports a Master/Slave mode: multiple observation points measure the same target and report to a central instance, ideal for comparing network quality between your sites or providers (Enterprise plan).
Are technical skills required?
No for viewing: the web interface and graphs are ready to use. DINAO handles installation, probe configuration, alerts, and updates. A network team can still refine the configuration.
