Overview

What is RustFS?

RustFS is a distributed object storage system, high-performance and S3-compatible, entirely written in Rust. Designed as a free alternative to MinIO and proprietary object clouds, it exposes the standard S3 API: buckets, objects, multipart transfers, pre-signed URLs, versioning, and lifecycle policies work with your usual tools (aws-cli, boto3, rclone, s3cmd).

The choice of Rust brings memory safety and low latency without a garbage collector, making it suitable for both backups and data lakes as well as media streaming. In a cluster, RustFS distributes data and applies erasure coding for resilience, with possible inter-site replication.

DINAO hosts it in France, manages encryption, backups, and monitoring (capacity, latency), for a sovereign object storage with no egress fees or per-request billing.

FAQ

You might be wondering…

Will my S3 applications work without changes?

Yes. RustFS exposes an S3-compatible API: your SDKs, scripts, and tools (aws-cli, boto3, rclone) continue to work by simply changing the endpoint and access keys.

How is it different from MinIO or AWS S3?

RustFS is written in Rust (performance and memory safety) and hosted in France by DINAO. You keep the standard S3 API while avoiding dependency on a foreign hyperscaler and egress fees.

Is my data encrypted?

Yes, at rest and in transit. Objects remain on DINAO's infrastructure in France, on an isolated container dedicated to you.

Can I use it as a backup target?

Absolutely. RustFS serves as an S3 endpoint for Restic, Veeam, Duplicati, or any compatible tool, making it a sovereign backup target.

Can I increase capacity later?

Yes. You move up a tier at any time, and the Enterprise offer allows a multi-node distributed cluster with inter-site replication.
