Your sovereign Markdown knowledge base
A Markdown file-based knowledge base powered by Raneto, installed and maintained by DINAO. Lightweight, database-free, and hosted on our French servers.
What is Raneto?
Raneto is an open source and self-hostable knowledge base, powered by simple Markdown files and built on Node.js. Its philosophy is to provide the essentials of a wiki or product documentation without the bloat of a complex platform.
Its "flat file" architecture is its greatest strength: Raneto uses no database. Each page is a Markdown file stored in a content folder, making the tool simple (edit with your favorite editor or via Git), portable, and very lightweight. Backing up is as simple as copying text files.
As for features, Raneto produces a clean, responsive documentation site with full-text search powered by Lunr.js. It is a lightweight alternative to solutions like Confluence or GitBook, ideal for documenting an API, setting up an internal wiki, or publishing product guides — all hosted in France and maintained by DINAO.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
Is a database required?
No. Raneto is a "flat file" CMS: all pages are simple Markdown files stored in a folder. No database to manage, making it lightweight and easy to back up.
How is content written?
In Markdown, using your preferred editor. Each file becomes a page. You can also manage your content via Git for versioning and collaboration.
Does search work well?
Yes. Raneto includes client-side full-text search (Lunr.js), which allows you to quickly find the right page even in a large knowledge base.
Is it an alternative to Confluence or GitBook?
Yes, for simple documentation needs. Raneto offers a lightweight, self-hosted approach, without the bloat or cost of proprietary solutions, while keeping your content in France.
Can I restrict access?
Yes, as an option: password protection or IP restriction for internal documentation. DINAO configures access according to your needs and hosts everything in France.
