Overview

What is Ralph?

Ralph is an open source CMDB (Configuration Management Database) and asset management system dedicated to datacenter and back-office hardware. Originally developed by Allegro and provided under the Apache 2.0 license, it helps IT departments inventory and map their entire fleet.

Ralph centralizes servers, racks, network equipment, and peripherals, going well beyond simple inventory : it tracks software licenses, support, and contracts (with deadline management), and offers modules for DCIM and management of deployments and equipment lifecycle transitions.

Built on Django and Python 3, Ralph is easy to extend and customize without unnecessary code, and exposes a REST API for automation and integration with your existing tools. Its deployment via Docker makes it a robust platform to regain full control of your infrastructure.

FAQ

You might be wondering…

What is a CMDB and what is Ralph used for?

A CMDB (Configuration Management Database) lists all assets of your IT infrastructure and their relationships. Ralph centralizes datacenter and back-office servers, racks, networks, licenses, and deployments in a single, structured database.

Does Ralph manage licenses and contracts?

Yes. Beyond hardware, Ralph tracks software licenses, support, and contracts, with deadline tracking to anticipate renewals.

Can it be integrated with our existing tools?

Yes. Ralph exposes a REST API for import/export, automation, and integration with your monitoring and inventory tools. It is built on Django/Python 3 and remains extensible.

Where are the data hosted?

On the DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available datacenters. Your infrastructure mapping, sensitive data, never leaves the territory.

Are technical skills required?

DINAO installs the instance, the database, and manages updates. Administration and asset entry are done via the web interface; IT skills on the client side are recommended to structure the fleet.
