What is pygeoapi?
pygeoapi is an open-source Python server that implements the OGC API suite of standards. It allows an organization to deploy a RESTful endpoint to distribute geospatial data leveraging OpenAPI, GeoJSON, and HTML, without heavy custom development.
The server covers several standards from the OGC API family: Features (vector objects), Tiles (map tiles), Processes (geospatial processing), and EDR (Environmental Data Retrieval). It is a certified OGC reference implementation, ensuring interoperability with market GIS clients such as QGIS, Leaflet, or OpenLayers.
Its plugin-based architecture allows connecting various data sources — PostGIS, GeoPackage, GeoJSON/CSV files, external services — as well as custom output formats and processing. pygeoapi can be deployed with different frameworks (Flask, Django) and lends itself naturally to containerized execution. The project is distributed under the MIT license.
Host pygeoapi at DINAO
No managed container for pygeoapi: this application is installed on a VPS hosted in France (1 vCPU / 512 Mo / 2 Go minimum).
Application available on a VPS
This application requires privileged access to the host machine, which is incompatible with managed shared hosting. It is installed on a VPS (virtual private server) that you administer: DINAO delivers it with Docker and the management panel of your choice, and you install and maintain pygeoapi yourself. The VPS is not managed by DINAO unless you add the managed-services option when ordering.

Do my map data remain private?
Yes. Your layers, feeds, and metadata stay on your dedicated instance in France. You decide what is exposed publicly and what remains restricted.
Which standards and formats are supported?
pygeoapi is a reference implementation of OGC API standards (Features, Tiles, Processes, EDR), with GeoJSON, HTML outputs, and OpenAPI description. Your usual GIS tools connect without adaptation.
Where is the data hosted?
On DINAO's infrastructure in France, in one of the available datacenters. Your geospatial data does not leave the territory.
Do I need technical skills?
DINAO handles installation, data provider configuration, security, and updates. Your GIS/dev teams just need to consume or feed the API.
Can I change my plan or export my data?
Yes. You can scale up or down at any time, and your datasets remain exportable — no proprietary lock-in.
