What is PhotoPrism?
PhotoPrism is a private AI-powered photo library, designed to browse, organize, and share your photos without relying on the cloud of tech giants. Its artificial intelligence engine automatically classifies your images by recognizing places, objects, and scenes, and enables a remarkably effective content-based search.
The tool handles RAW files, videos, and Live photos, offers local facial recognition, interactive maps tracing your travels, and automatically highlights your best moments. A modern web application and a mobile PWA complete the experience.
Fully self-hostable and open-source, PhotoPrism gives you back control of your memories: your photos and AI processing remain on your server, never sent to a third-party service.
Host PhotoPrism at DINAO
No managed container for PhotoPrism: this application is installed on a VPS hosted in France (2 vCPU / 4 Go / 10 Go minimum).
Application available on a VPS
This application requires privileged access to the host machine, which is incompatible with managed shared hosting. It is installed on a VPS (virtual private server) that you administer: DINAO delivers it with Docker and the management panel of your choice, and you install and maintain PhotoPrism yourself. The VPS is not managed by DINAO unless you add the managed-services option when ordering.
Technical reason: bac à sable affaibli (security_opt : seccomp:unconfined) + bac à sable affaibli (security_opt : apparmor:unconfined).

You might be wondering…
Does the AI send my photos to Google or a third party?
No. PhotoPrism performs classification and facial recognition locally on your France-based instance. Your photos are never transmitted to an external service.
What formats are supported?
Common formats, but also RAW files, videos, and Live photos, all without quality loss thanks to non-destructive processing of the originals.
Can I share albums?
Yes, starting from the Family plan. You share albums securely, with controlled links, without exposing your entire photo library.
Do I need a GPU?
Not necessarily: AI indexing works on CPU. For very large volumes or faster processing, a GPU is offered on the Studio plan.
Can I retrieve my photos whenever I want?
Yes. PhotoPrism keeps your originals intact and remains open-source: you retain full access to your files, exportable at any time.
