What is Papra?
Papra is a minimalist open-source document management and archiving platform, designed to be easy to use. It helps you organize, secure, and archive your files without the complexity of traditional DMS.
Features include full-text search and advanced filters, email ingestion (forward your documents to a generated address for automatic import), content extraction (OCR) from images and scans, tag rules that automatically classify your documents, and a CLI to manage everything from the terminal.
The entire ecosystem is open-source (AGPL-3.0 license) and easily self-hostable: the Docker image is less than 200 MB and runs on x86, ARM64, and ARMv7. An excellent choice for long-term document retention while remaining in control of your data.

This application uses AI
The container hosts the application, not the AI engine (which requires dedicated GPUs) : inference is handled externally, with your own provider key. Prioritize a sovereign engine — Mistral AI, NumSpot, Scaleway, or OVHcloud AI Endpoints (France, GDPR) ; an international provider (OpenAI, Anthropic…) only if a specific capability requires it. Inference subscriptions are not included in hosting.

What types of documents can I archive?
All your files: PDFs, images, scans, mail, invoices, contracts. OCR even makes scanned documents searchable by content.
How does email ingestion work?
Papra generates a dedicated address: simply forward or send your documents to it for automatic import and classification, with no manual steps.
Are my documents secure?
Yes. Everything is hosted in France on an isolated instance, encrypted at rest and in transit, with DPA and GDPR compliance. Ideal for sensitive documents.
Can I automate classification?
Yes. Tag rules automatically apply your classifications based on your criteria (sender, keywords, type…), filing your documents effortlessly.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Papra is open-source and doesn't lock your files: you can export everything via the interface, CLI, or API, with no proprietary lock-in.
