What is Paperless-ngx?
Paperless-ngx is an open-source, self-hosted document management system (DMS) that transforms your physical documents into a searchable digital archive, thereby reducing paper usage. It is the official successor to the Paperless and Paperless-ng projects, supported by an active community.
The system performs OCR on your documents using the open-source Tesseract engine, adding searchable and selectable text even to scanned image documents in over 100 languages. It allows you to organize and index your documents with tags, correspondents, and types, and offers automatic classification via machine learning models.
Crucial for sovereignty: your data is stored locally on your server and is never transmitted or shared. Usually deployed via Docker Compose and integrable with a scanner for automated ingestion, Paperless-ngx is designed for individuals, freelancers, and businesses looking to digitize and retrieve their documents with complete confidentiality.

How do I add my documents?
Multiple options: deposit in a monitored folder, import from an email box (IMAP), send from a network scanner, or upload via the web interface. OCR and classification are triggered automatically.
Can I find a document by its content?
Yes. Thanks to OCR and full-text indexing, you can search by document words, correspondent, date, or tag — even in an image scan.
Where is the data hosted?
On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your documents and archives never leave the country.
Are technical skills required?
No for usage: the web interface is intuitive and filing is automated by rules. DINAO handles installation, security, and updates.
Can I change my plan or export my data?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and your documents remain exportable (PDF/A, full archive) — no proprietary lock-in.
