Overview

What is OSRM?

OSRM (Open Source Routing Machine) is a high-performance routing engine that runs on OpenStreetMap data. Thanks to its hierarchical contraction algorithms, it calculates the shortest path across very large road networks in just a few milliseconds.

Beyond simple routing (the Route service), OSRM exposes the Table service (distance and duration matrices, essential for logistics optimization), Trip (traveling salesman-style route optimization), Nearest (nearest point on the network), and Match (map-matching, GPS trace alignment with roads). Transport profiles — car, bike, pedestrian — are fully customizable.

Hosted on your instance, OSRM constitutes a sovereign alternative to commercial routing APIs: no imposed quotas, no pay-per-call billing, and above all, no transmission of your start/end points or GPS traces to third parties. DINAO prepares the OpenStreetMap data, supervises the service, and manages updates.
