Your envelope-based budget, private and hosted in France
Manage your finances using the envelope budgeting method (bucket budgeting), a private alternative to YNAB. DINAO hosts and maintains your OpenBudgeteer instance — your banking data never leaves your control.
What is OpenBudgeteer?
OpenBudgeteer is an self-hosted budget management application based on the envelope budgeting principle (bucket budgeting), inspired by tools like YNAB and Buckets. It encourages assigning a role to every euro: you distribute your available funds into dedicated envelopes for current expenses, savings, and future projects.
The tool supports CSV transaction imports, with configurable delimiters and text qualifiers, and allows you to assign each transaction to one or more envelopes. A monthly history and versioning system facilitates tracking budget evolution over time.
On the technical side, OpenBudgeteer runs on .NET with a Blazor Server interface, supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB databases, uses Redis for configuration, and offers an optional API container documented via Swagger. Born from a proprietary project that became open source, it provides a private and cost-effective alternative to commercial budgeting applications.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
How is envelope budgeting different?
The envelope method (bucket budgeting) involves pre-allocating your money to categories: expenses, savings, and projects. Every euro has a designated purpose, preventing you from spending money that wasn't actually budgeted.
How do I import my bank transactions?
OpenBudgeteer imports transactions in CSV format, with configurable delimiters and text qualifiers. You then distribute each transaction across one or more envelopes.
Where are my financial data hosted?
On DINAO's infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your banking data remains on your dedicated instance and never leaves the country.
Is it a real alternative to YNAB?
Yes. OpenBudgeteer draws inspiration from YNAB and Buckets while being open source and self-hosted: you retain full control over your data, without per-user subscriptions or third-party cloud services.
Who manages updates and security?
DINAO. We install versions, apply patches, and perform encrypted backups. You focus on your budget.
