Overview

What is Mopidy?

Mopidy is an open-source, scalable music server written in Python. It plays music from your local drive as well as from many online services — Spotify, TuneIn, SoundCloud, YouTube, podcasts… — thanks to a rich ecosystem of extensions, and brings all these sources together in a single playlist.

Its key strength is its open API (HTTP, JSON-RPC, WebSocket): Mopidy does not impose any client on you. You control it from well-known web interfaces like Iris or Mopify, from a mobile app, an MPD-compatible client, or even your home automation system. On the audio side, Mopidy relies on GStreamer for decoding and output.

At DINAO, Mopidy is hosted on a dedicated instance in France, behind HTTPS, with your library and configuration backed up. We install and keep your server and chosen extensions up to date.

FAQ

You might be wondering…

What music sources can I use?

Your local files and many services via extensions: Spotify (Premium account required), TuneIn, SoundCloud, YouTube, podcasts, and more. Everything is controlled from a single playlist.

Do I need a specific app to control playback?

No. Mopidy exposes an open API: you control it from a web client (Iris, Mopify), a mobile app, an MPD client, or even your home automation system.

Does Spotify work with a free account?

No. The Spotify extension requires a Spotify Premium account and token-based authentication. DINAO assists you with the configuration.

Where are my library and configuration hosted?

On DINAO's infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your files and settings never leave the country.

Can I add new extensions later?

Yes. The Mopidy ecosystem is modular: DINAO can activate new sources, web clients, or audio outputs according to your needs.
