What is Mitra?
Mitra is a lightweight federated social network built on the ActivityPub protocol. It allows you to host your own instance in the Fediverse and communicate with all compatible servers (Mastodon, Pleroma, etc.), while retaining control over your data and moderation.
Designed for simplicity, Mitra has a minimal memory footprint (less than 50 MB) and easy installation. It supports quotes, custom emojis, reactions, polls, a 5000-character limit, and Markdown-style formatting. Compatibility with the Mastodon API opens access to many existing client applications.
Mitra stands out for its identity portability: account migrations between servers and an identity detachable from the server, so you never depend on a single host. It also offers a subscription service (private content for supporters) as well as federation via Tor and/or I2P for advanced privacy needs.

What is the Fediverse and ActivityPub?
The Fediverse is a network of interconnected social servers (Mastodon, Pleroma, Mitra…) that communicate via the standard ActivityPub protocol. From your Mitra instance, you can follow and be followed by accounts hosted elsewhere, without a central platform.
Is it compatible with Mastodon apps?
Yes. Mitra implements the Mastodon API, allowing you to use many existing client applications to post and view your feed.
Can I migrate my account elsewhere?
Yes. Mitra supports account migrations between servers and a detachable identity from the server: you retain control over your online presence, without lock-in.
Where is the data hosted?
On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your posts, followers, and media do not leave the territory.
Do I need technical skills?
No for usage: the interface is ready to use. DINAO handles installation, federation, domain, HTTPS, and updates.
