Overview

What is Meteroid?

Meteroid is an open-source, cloud-native platform for billing and subscription management (pricing, billing, metering), designed as a self-hostable alternative to Stripe Billing for SaaS models, particularly usage-based billing.

Its real-time metering engine ingests usage events (API requests, tokens, transactions, storage…) and transforms them into billable metrics without pre-aggregation. Meteroid supports various pricing models (flat, usage, tiered, hybrid) with versioned plans, full subscription lifecycle management (subscription, upgrade, downgrade, cancellation, renewal), automated generation of invoices and credit notes, CPQ (quoting), VAT, trials, coupons, and grandfathering.

API-first architecture (gRPC/REST) with event-driven webhooks, self-service client portal, and payment connectors (Stripe, Paddle, Braintree, custom processors). Core written in Rust, React frontend, it relies on PostgreSQL, ClickHouse (analytics), and Kafka (metering pipeline), deployable via Docker Compose and Kubernetes (Helm). Licensed under AGPL-3.0.
