Design your maps online, hosted in France
A visual map style editor powered by Maputnik, installed and maintained by DINAO. Create and modify your MapLibre GL styles without writing code — and your styles stay on our French servers.
What is Maputnik?
Maputnik is an open-source visual editor for map styles, designed for the MapLibre Style Specification and intended for both developers and cartographic designers. It allows you to create and modify the appearance of vector maps via a graphical interface, without writing code.
Once a style is opened, you adjust the various layers and their values — colors, fonts, filters, display rules — with a real-time preview of the result. The output is easily exported as a JSON file compliant with the specification, directly consumable by MapLibre GL JS.
Written in TypeScript with React and MapLibre GL JS, Maputnik connects to your own tile servers (e.g., OpenMapTiles) to produce fully controlled maps, without relying on a public online editor or a third-party API key. Hosted by DINAO, it becomes a fully sovereign cartographic studio.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
What exactly is Maputnik?
Maputnik is a free visual editor for MapLibre GL map styles. It allows designers and developers to create and modify the appearance of vector maps via a graphical interface, without writing code.
Do I need to know how to code to use it?
No. Editing is done visually: you adjust layers, colors, fonts, and display rules, with a real-time preview. A technical team can then retrieve the exported JSON style to integrate it into their applications.
Can I use my own map backgrounds?
Yes. You connect Maputnik to your own tile servers (e.g., OpenMapTiles) to produce fully controlled maps, without third-party API keys or imposed quotas.
Where are my styles and data hosted?
On your DINAO instance hosted in France, in an isolated container. Your styles and sources do not depend on any public online editor and do not leave the territory.
Is the produced style reusable elsewhere?
Yes. Maputnik exports a JSON file compliant with the MapLibre Style Specification, directly consumable by MapLibre GL JS and compatible with the open vector map ecosystem.
