What is MapStore?
MapStore is an open-source WebGIS / web mapping framework developed by GeoSolutions, allowing you to create, share, and embed maps, dashboards, and GeoStories in 2D and 3D. Adopted by many local authorities and government agencies, it caters to both GIS professionals and occasional users.
The front-end is built with React using OpenLayers, Leaflet, and Cesium for 2D/3D visualization; the back-end is Java/Spring deployed on Apache Tomcat, with PostgreSQL/PostGIS for persistence. MapStore relies on OGC standards — WMS, WMTS, WFS, CSW (catalog), 3DTiles, GeoJSON — and integrates natively with servers like GeoServer.
It provides tools for layer styling, spatial analysis, and collaborative mapping, as well as embeddable maps and dashboards for other sites. It deploys via Docker containers for reproducibility and manages users and roles with external authentication integrations (LDAP, Keycloak, OAuth2).

What data sources can I connect?
All OGC standards (WMS, WMTS, WFS, CSW for catalogs), as well as 3DTiles and GeoJSON, with native GeoServer integration for your layers.
Can my maps be embedded elsewhere?
Yes. MapStore maps, dashboards, and GeoStories are embeddable (iframe) in your own websites, in addition to being accessible from the portal.
Where is my geospatial data stored?
In a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database hosted by DINAO in France. Your layers and maps do not leave the territory.
Is 3D supported?
Yes. MapStore visualizes in 2D (OpenLayers/Leaflet) as well as 3D (Cesium, 3DTiles), depending on your portal's needs.
How are users and permissions managed?
MapStore includes user and role management, with documented external authentication connections (LDAP, Keycloak, OAuth2).
