The Git for your data, hosted in France
Bring Git-style versioning to your data lakes with lakeFS, installed and maintained by DINAO. Branches, commits, and rollback on your object storage — on a sovereign infrastructure.
What is lakeFS?
lakeFS is an open-source platform that brings Git-style version control to data lakes — hence the term « Git for Data ». It transforms object storage into a versioned repository, allowing you to create branches, roll back, and ensure reproducibility and atomicity of processing.
Compatible with the S3 API, lakeFS integrates directly with modern analytical engines: Spark, Hive, Athena, DuckDB, Presto. It is used to isolate dev/test environments without physically copying data, stabilize ETL pipelines, and apply quality checks before publication.
Published under the Apache 2.0 license and fully self-hostable, lakeFS supports AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage, and offers governance hooks for write-audit-publish workflows.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
What is « Git for data »?
lakeFS transposes Git concepts (branches, commits, merge, rollback) to your data lake. You isolate environments, test transformations, and publish data only once validated.
Do I need to migrate my tools?
No. lakeFS exposes an S3-compatible API: Spark, Hive, Athena, DuckDB, or Presto connect to it like a standard S3 bucket, without rewriting your pipelines.
Do my datasets remain in France?
Yes. Metadata and object storage are hosted on DINAO infrastructure in France. Your data does not leave the territory.
Does lakeFS include AI?
No. lakeFS is a data infrastructure tool. It is often used upstream of machine learning projects to stabilize and reproduce datasets, but it does not contain any artificial intelligence itself.
Can I change plans or export my data?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and your data remains exportable — no proprietary lock-in.
