Overview

What is Kroki?

Kroki provides a unified API to create diagrams from text descriptions. Instead of juggling multiple incompatible tools, you send text (Mermaid, PlantUML, Graphviz…) to a single HTTP endpoint, and receive a diagram in SVG, PNG or PDF.

The service supports more than twenty diagram languages: PlantUML, Mermaid, Graphviz, BlockDiag, C4, BPMN, Excalidraw, Vega/Vega-Lite, Structurizr and many others. This diagrams-as-code approach allows you to version your diagrams like code, keep them synchronized with documentation, and generate them automatically.

Architected around a core and containerized companions, Kroki is stateless and integrates natively with tools like Asciidoctor, MkDocs or Confluence, as well as your CI/CD pipelines. Self-hosted, it avoids exposing the source code of your diagrams—which may reveal your architecture—to a third-party service.

FAQ

You might be wondering…

Why host Kroki instead of using kroki.io?

The source code of your diagrams may reveal your internal architecture, server names, or business processes. With a DINAO instance, this text stays in France and never passes through the public shared service.

What diagram formats are supported?

More than twenty: Mermaid, PlantUML, Graphviz, BlockDiag, C4, BPMN, Excalidraw, Vega, Structurizr and many others, via a single unified API.

How to integrate it with my documentation?

Kroki integrates natively with Asciidoctor, MkDocs, Confluence, as well as your CI pipelines to automatically generate diagrams during doc compilation.

Where are the data hosted?

On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available datacenters. Since Kroki is stateless, only configuration and any logs are concerned.

Do technical skills are required?

Usage via the API is simple (a URL or a POST). DINAO handles installation, companions, security and updates.
