What is Karakeep?
Karakeep (formerly Hoarder) is an self-hostable all-in-one saving app — links, notes, and images — with an AI touch, designed for those who love to archive and organize their knowledge.
The app automatically fetches titles, descriptions, and previews for links, offers automatic AI tagging and summaries (compatible with local models via Ollama), complete page archiving to protect against link rot, and automatic video archiving. Full-text search allows you to instantly find everything.
Technically, Karakeep relies on Next.js for the web application, a database via Drizzle, Puppeteer for bookmark crawling, and Meilisearch for search. Containerized, it deploys via Docker and is perfectly suited for managed and sovereign hosting.

This application uses AI
The container hosts the application, not the AI engine (which requires dedicated GPUs) : inference is handled externally, with your own provider key. Prioritize a sovereign engine — Mistral AI, NumSpot, Scaleway, or OVHcloud AI Endpoints (France, GDPR) ; an international provider (OpenAI, Anthropic…) only if a specific capability requires it. Inference subscriptions are not included in hosting.

What can I save in Karakeep?
Links, notes, and images (as well as PDFs). Karakeep automatically fetches titles, descriptions, and previews, archives full pages, and can archive videos to prevent content loss.
Can AI tagging stay on my end?
Yes. Karakeep supports local models via Ollama for automatic tagging and summaries. In this mode, your content is not sent to an external service.
Are my bookmarks private?
Yes. Links, notes, and images remain on your dedicated instance hosted in France, in an isolated container, without sharing.
How do I find saved content?
Karakeep includes full-text search (Meilisearch) across all your content, as well as organization by lists and automatically generated tags.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Karakeep is open-source and your data remains exportable. No proprietary lock-in.
