What is Juxtapose?
Juxtapose (JuxtaposeJS) is a simple open-source tool created by Knight Lab at Northwestern University to create « before/after » image comparison sliders. Simply provide two images: Juxtapose overlays the visuals and adds a cursor that visitors drag to reveal one image then the other.
The tool is ideal for editorial content: illustrating slow evolution over time (city growth, reforestation, renovation work) or the impact of a specific event (natural disaster, transformation of a place). The output is responsive and integrates via a simple embed code on any site, CMS, or article.
