What is Home Assistant?
Home Assistant is an open-source smart home solution that places local control and privacy first. Driven by a community of enthusiasts and DIYers, it unifies over 1,000 brands and device types within a single interface and fully customizable drag-and-drop dashboards.
Its advanced automation engine allows you to create rich conditional scenarios: turn on lights at sunset or upon your arrival, receive an alert if a door remains open, control heating, etc. The built-in voice assistant Assist enables natural language control, with support for Alexa and Google Assistant, companion mobile apps, and NFC tag automation.
Key advantage: all data remains local, with no mandatory cloud storage — devices communicate locally, with cloud usage only when necessary. Home Assistant is a non-profit project under the auspices of the Open Home Foundation, ensuring its independence: it cannot be sold or acquired.
Host Home Assistant at DINAO
No managed container for Home Assistant: this application is installed on a VPS hosted in France (2 vCPU / 1 Go / 32 Go minimum).
Application available on a VPS
This application requires privileged access to the host machine, which is incompatible with managed shared hosting. It is installed on a VPS (virtual private server) that you administer: DINAO delivers it with Docker and the management panel of your choice, and you install and maintain Home Assistant yourself. The VPS is not managed by DINAO unless you add the managed-services option when ordering.
Technical reason: conteneur privilégié + partage de namespace hôte/conteneur (network_mode=host) + bind-mount d'un chemin hôte (volumes nommés uniquement en managé).
