Your own private search engine
Hister full-text indexes the pages you view and your knowledge base. Hosted by DINAO in France, it offers you powerful personal search — without querying a remote engine.
What is Hister?
Hister is an open-source personal search engine that automatically indexes, in full text, the web pages you view and your knowledge base. The goal: keep your browsing history indexed locally and no longer rely on a remote engine when not necessary.
Hister provides a powerful query language for precise results, and can extend its index through a standard crawler or a headless browser. It supports multi-user and optionally offers AI-assisted semantic search to understand the intent behind your queries.
Hosted by DINAO in France, Hister becomes a sovereign alternative to mainstream search engines: you find everything you've read, without entrusting your history or queries to a third-party service.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
What is Hister used for?
Hister is your personal search engine: it full-text indexes the pages you view and your documents, allowing you to find information even when you've forgotten the source, without going through Google or Bing.
Is my browsing history private?
Yes. The index is built and stored on your DINAO instance in France. No remote search engine is queried: your browsing data does not leave.
Does Hister use AI?
Optionally. Beyond keyword search, Hister offers an AI-assisted semantic search, executed locally, which understands the intent of your queries.
How is the index populated?
Via a traditional crawler or a headless browser that crawls and indexes pages, and by adding your local knowledge base (documents, notes).
Can it be used by multiple people?
Yes. Hister supports multi-user: you can share a team index or isolate spaces according to your needs.
