Passwordless authentication, hosted in France
The passkey authentication backend powered by Hanko, installed and maintained by DINAO. Your identities and user accounts remain on our French servers — never with an American identity provider.
What is Hanko?
Hanko is an open-source authentication and user management solution, built around a flexible API and designed for the passwordless era. Designed from the ground up around WebAuthn and FIDO2 standards, it puts passkeys front and center, with fallback methods (passwords, 2FA, magic links) for devices that are not yet compatible.
Its key advantage is integration: Hanko Elements are lightweight, agnostic web components that you can insert into any frontend framework to get a functional login flow up and running in minutes. The backend, written in Go and backed by PostgreSQL, exposes a clear API, webhooks, and support for SSO / OIDC.
Hanko follows a privacy-first approach focused on data minimization and phishing-resistant authentication methods. Fully self-hostable (AGPL v3 license), it gives you full control over your identities, without renting your user accounts to a third-party provider.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
What is a passkey?
A passkey is a cryptographic credential stored on your device (phone, computer, security key). It replaces the password with biometric or device code authentication, which is phishing-resistant.
Does Hanko completely replace passwords?
It can. Hanko prioritizes passkeys but retains passwords, 2FA, and magic links as fallback for users whose devices do not yet support passkeys.
Can I integrate it into my existing application?
Yes. Hanko provides web components (Hanko Elements) compatible with any framework, as well as an API and SDKs to connect login to your applications in just a few lines.
Where are identities stored?
On your Hanko instance hosted by DINAO in France. You retain ownership of your user accounts, with no dependency on an external identity provider.
Does Hanko handle enterprise SSO?
Yes. The Growth and Scale plans support SSO / OIDC to federate your identities and connect your internal applications.
