HandBrake is the reference open-source video transcoder, used for over twenty years to convert and compress videos into modern formats. It accepts virtually all existing input formats and produces optimized MP4, MKV, or WebM files.
HandBrake supports the latest codecs — H.264, H.265 (HEVC), AV1, VP9 — with optional hardware acceleration to drastically reduce processing times. Its queue engine allows you to convert entire batches of videos without intervention, ideal for standardizing a catalog or reducing the size of a media library.

Is encoding fast?
It depends on the chosen power level. Higher tiers add a GPU for hardware acceleration, significantly reducing encoding times, especially for AV1.
