Overview

What is Gotenberg?

Gotenberg is an open-source document generation API, powered by Docker, that transforms content into PDFs on demand. Where fragile libraries were once assembled, Gotenberg offers a single, reliable, and stateless service, queryable via a simple HTTP call.

It converts HTML and CSS with faithful rendering (via Chromium), Markdown, as well as major office formats — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others — thanks to LibreOffice. Headers, footers, margins, page formats: formatting is fully configurable. Gotenberg can also merge, split, and manipulate PDFs.

Designed to integrate with applications, it features client modules in many languages (PHP, Go, Node…) and fits naturally into invoicing, contracting, or reporting workflows. Since it retains no documents, it is perfectly suited for processing personal data. Managed by DINAO and hosted in France, it keeps your sensitive documents under your control.

What is Gotenberg for?

Gotenberg is a document generation API: your applications send it HTML, Markdown, or an Office file, and it returns a PDF. It is ideal for generating invoices, contracts, certificates, or reports on the fly.

What formats can it convert?

HTML and CSS (rendered via Chromium), Markdown, and office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint…) thanks to LibreOffice. It can also merge and manipulate existing PDFs.

Are my documents stored?

No. Gotenberg is a non-persistent service: it processes the document in memory and returns the PDF without storing it. Processing takes place on our servers in France, in compliance with GDPR.

How do I integrate it into my application?

Via a simple HTTP call. Client modules exist for many languages (PHP, Go, Node…), allowing quick integration into your code or workflows.

Can I change my plan?
