What is Gitea?
Gitea is an self-hosted DevOps platform that positions itself as “private, fast, and reliable.” Lightweight and easy to install, it provides teams and developers with an efficient environment covering planning through to production, without the heaviness of major market suites.
It provides Git repository hosting with integrated code review, a CI/CD system via Gitea Actions compatible with GitHub Actions syntax, as well as comprehensive project management: issues, kanban boards, labels, milestones, and time tracking. Gitea also includes a package registry supporting over twenty formats (npm, Maven, PyPI, containers, Helm…) and connects to third-party tools via API, webhooks, and notifications (Slack, Discord, Teams).
Particularly resource-frugal, Gitea runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, FreeBSD, or Kubernetes and relies on SQLite, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. Under the MIT license, it is an ideal open source alternative for organizations that want to host their Git forge with full autonomy, whether on modest hardware or demanding production environments.
