Your geographic data, published from France
A map server powered by GeoServer, installed and maintained by DINAO, with its PostGIS database built in. Publish your layers as WMS, WFS, WMTS and WPS for QGIS, your web portals and your partners — your data stays on our French servers.
What is GeoServer?
GeoServer is the reference open-source server for publishing geographic data according to OGC standards. A project of the OSGeo foundation, written in Java, it is used by local authorities, public agencies and consulting firms to serve their layers to GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS, and to web mapping portals.
It reads your data where it lives — PostGIS database, Shapefiles, GeoTIFF rasters — and publishes it as WMS (rendered maps), WFS (vector features, read and edit with WFS-T), WCS (rasters) and WMTS (tiles cached by the built-in GeoWebCache). The WPS extension is installed: it exposes spatial processes — buffers, intersections… — that can be called remotely. Rendering is controlled with SLD styles, and a REST API lets you automate publishing.
At DINAO, GeoServer comes with a dedicated PostgreSQL/PostGIS database, linked to the server over a private network and not exposed to the Internet by default. The administrator password is generated at installation, access is over HTTPS on your domain, and both the database and the GeoServer data directory are backed up every day.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
Which services and formats can I publish?
Maps (WMS), vector features (WFS, including editing with WFS-T), rasters (WCS) and tiles (WMTS, cached by GeoWebCache). Data can come from the provided PostGIS database, Shapefiles or GeoTIFF rasters.
Can I connect from QGIS?
Yes. Your server's WMS, WFS and WMTS addresses can be added in QGIS like any OGC source : your published layers appear directly.
How do I load my data into PostGIS?
By default, the database can only be reached by GeoServer. To load your data from your workstation (QGIS, ogr2ogr, pgAdmin…), the database port can be opened to the IP addresses you specify only, or made reachable through a private network (VPN). Nothing is opened to the whole Internet.
Who manages what?
You manage your workspaces, layers and styles from the GeoServer administration interface. DINAO takes care of the server, security updates, the PostGIS database and backups.
