Overview

What is FitTrackee?

FitTrackee is a self-hosted web application for tracking your outdoor sports activities. Based on track files (GPX, FIT, TCX, KML) or manual entry, it displays your routes on OpenStreetMap maps and calculates distance, duration, elevation gain, and records. It is a private and sovereign alternative to Strava.

A dashboard with a monthly calendar and statistics by sport (21 supported sports: running, cycling, hiking, skiing, swimming, kayaking, paragliding…) allows you to track your progress. FitTrackee is multi-user, offers a REST API with OAuth2 (PKCE flow for third-party apps) and an optional ActivityPub federation to share activities between instances.

On the technical side, the backend is in Python / Flask, the frontend in Vue 3 / TypeScript, with a PostgreSQL database and the PostGIS extension for geospatial data (location filtering, Nominatim geocoding). Deployment is done via Docker, under the AGPL-3.0 license. Since GPS and health data are particularly sensitive, hosting in France is a major GDPR advantage.

You might be wondering…

Does FitTrackee replace Strava?

For the most part of outdoor activity tracking, yes: track import, map display, statistics, records, and training calendar. The big difference is that your GPS and health data remain on your instance in France, not with a public service.

How do I import my activities from my watch?

FitTrackee accepts GPX, FIT, TCX, and KML files, exportable from most watches and apps (FitoTrack, OpenTracks, OsmAnd…). You can also enter an activity manually.

Where are my GPS and health data hosted?

On the DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. This data, among the most sensitive under GDPR, does not leave the territory.

Can multiple people use the same instance?

Yes. FitTrackee is multi-user with administration roles. An optional ActivityPub federation even allows sharing activities between instances.

Can I change my plan or export my activities?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and your activities remain exportable (notably in GPX format) — no proprietary lock-in.
