What is Expensave?
Expensave is a self-hosted web application for personal and family expense tracking, inspired by Dollarbird. It organizes expenses and income in the form of calendars — unlimited and shareable among family members — to provide a clear view of your daily finances.
It handles recurring transactions (daily, weekly, monthly, or annual) and allows you to import bank statements from various institutions, enabling you to analyze your spending habits without tedious manual entry. The interface is responsive and installable as a mobile application (PWA).
On the technical side, the backend is built with PHP / Symfony, the frontend with Angular / TypeScript, and deployment is handled via Docker Compose. The project is open-source (GPL-3.0); its analytics telemetry (PostHog) is disableable, a welcome feature for privacy-focused hosting.

You might be wondering…
Does Expensave connect directly to my bank?
No, and that's intentional: Expensave does not aggregate your accounts in real-time via a third party. You import your bank statements (files) from your institutions, keeping your banking credentials out of the application.
Can I manage a family budget?
Yes. Expense calendars are shareable among multiple users: each household member contributes to the same budget with their own account.
Where are my financial data hosted?
On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your financial data never leave the territory, and telemetry is disableable.
Can I use it as a mobile application?
Yes. Expensave is a PWA: you can install it on your smartphone's home screen and use it like a native application, with a responsive interface.
Can I change plans or export my data?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and your data remains exportable — no proprietary lock-in.
