Overview

What is EMQX?

EMQX is a distributed, open-source MQTT broker designed for large-scale IoT deployments. It serves as a real-time communication hub between connected devices (sensors, machines, gateways) and applications, distributing messages via the MQTT protocol.

Known for its performance, EMQX can handle millions of concurrent connections with low latency. It supports MQTT 3.1.1 and 5.0, MQTT over WebSocket, Quality of Service (QoS) levels, persistent sessions, and retained messages, covering all needs of the industrial IoT ecosystem.

EMQX includes a powerful rules engine to transform and route messages to databases, message queues, or external services, as well as comprehensive security: TLS/SSL, multi-method authentication, and client-based access control lists (ACL). An admin dashboard and real-time metrics simplify operations.

FAQ

You might be wondering…

What is an MQTT broker?

MQTT is the IoT reference protocol. A broker like EMQX is the central server that receives messages from connected devices (sensors, machines) and distributes them to subscribed applications in real time.

How many devices can I connect?

EMQX is designed to scale: from a few thousand connections on the Discovery tier to a million on the Scale tier, with high-availability clustering.

Where is the data hosted?

On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your IoT streams never leave the territory.

How do I secure my connected devices?

EMQX supports TLS/SSL encryption, client authentication, and fine-grained access control lists (ACL): each device only accesses authorized topics.

Can I change plans or export my data?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade tiers at any time, and since MQTT is an open standard, your integrations remain portable — no vendor lock-in.
