Overview

What is Dawarich?

Dawarich is a self-hostable web application that serves as an alternative to Google Timeline (Google Location History). It allows you to store, view, and analyze your travel history on an interactive map, reconstruct your trips, and obtain detailed statistics on distances traveled and places visited.

The app receives your location from free mobile apps like OwnTracks and Overland, or from Home Assistant, and can import your existing history from Google Maps Timeline, OwnTracks, GPX, and GeoJSON. A location sharing feature allows you to track family members in real time.

Dawarich also integrates with photo managers Immich and Photoprism to place your geotagged photos on the map. Deployed in Docker containers, the project is actively developed and fully open source.

Dawarich records and maps your travel history like Google Maps Timeline, but on your own instance. Your locations are never used for advertising purposes.

How does my phone send my location?

Via free apps like OwnTracks or Overland, which transmit your location in the background to your Dawarich instance. Home Assistant can also serve as a source.

Can I import my existing Google history?

Yes. Dawarich imports your Google Maps Timeline export, as well as OwnTracks, GPX, and GeoJSON formats, to reconstruct years of travel.

Where are my location data hosted?

On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your movements never leave the territory.
