Explore and publish your data, with full sovereignty
Turn any SQLite database into an interactive website with a built-in JSON API, installed and maintained by DINAO. Your datasets stay on our French servers — they never leave.
What is Datasette?
Datasette is an open-source data exploration and publishing tool created by Simon Willison. It takes a SQLite database of any size and automatically exposes it as an interactive website, with a built-in JSON API — no coding required. Filtering, faceting, full-text search, and running SQL queries directly from the browser are part of the experience.
Designed for data journalists, researchers, archivists, and public institutions, Datasette leverages a rich ecosystem of over 150 plugins (mapping, charts, exports, authentication…) and companion tools to import, clean, and transform data. Recent versions also support editing, inserting, and deleting rows.
Regarding governance, Datasette offers granular permissions (table viewing, SQL execution, writing), private stored queries, and API tokens, allowing you to publish both a public open data portal and a strictly controlled internal repository. Lightweight and single-process, it runs without an external database server.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
What can I publish with Datasette?
Any dataset stored in an SQLite database: open data, archives, business exports, catalogs. Datasette turns it into an explorable site with filters, search, and a JSON API, without specific development.
Is my data public by default?
No. You decide the visibility of each table: public portal, authenticated access, or IP restriction. Permissions are granular (viewing, SQL execution, writing).
Where is the data hosted?
On DINAO's infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your data never leaves the territory.
Do I need technical skills?
No for viewing: the interface is ready to use. DINAO handles installation, plugins, and updates. A technical team can use the JSON API and stored SQL queries.
Can I change my plan or export my data?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and your SQLite databases remain exportable at any moment — no proprietary lock-in.
