What is Databag?
Databag is a decentralized communication messaging and end-to-end encrypted, open-source, and self-hostable solution. Its principle breaks with centralized messaging: each organization hosts its own node, and servers communicate directly with each other — a federated operation, similar to email, but applied to instant messaging.
The tool offers a complete communication experience: instant messaging, file sharing, profiles and presence, as well as audio and video calls via WebRTC, all accessible from web and mobile clients. End-to-end encryption ensures that conversations remain private, even from the host.
Designed to be lightweight and deployed via Docker, Databag exposes HTTPS on your domain and can rely on a dedicated TURN server to ensure call reliability. Hosted by DINAO in France, it makes you the owner of your communication infrastructure, on French territory and without dependency on a central platform.

Are my messages encrypted?

Can I make audio and video calls?
Yes. Beyond text and file sharing, Databag offers audio and video calls via WebRTC. A dedicated TURN server can be added to ensure call reliability behind strict firewalls.
Can I communicate with other Databag servers?
Yes. Thanks to federation, your node can exchange with other Databag servers, allowing you to connect multiple sites or organizations while keeping each one's hosting.
Where are my node and my data hosted?
On DINAO's infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers, within a dedicated container. Databag is open-source, with no proprietary lock-in.
