Your photo library, indexed and hosted in France
Damselfly indexes very large image collections and makes them searchable by keywords, folders, and even object and face recognition. Installed and maintained by DINAO, on our French servers.
What is Damselfly?
Damselfly is a server-side photo library manager, designed to index extremely large image collections and allow you to easily find a photo using its metadata: IPTC keywords, folder and file names, dates. It also includes automatic object and face detection to enhance search capabilities.
Indexing is fully automated in the background: as soon as an image is added or modified in the monitored folders, the catalog updates quickly. Since Damselfly is a server service with a web interface, the photo library is accessible from multiple devices without having to copy the catalog or database locally.
Built with Microsoft .NET and a Blazor WebAssembly frontend, and deployable via Docker, Damselfly manages accounts and access rights, image baskets, and metadata editing. Hosted by DINAO in France, it indexes and recognizes your images on your instance, without entrusting them to a third-party photo cloud.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
Is Damselfly suitable for very large collections?
Yes, that's its primary purpose. Damselfly is designed to index extremely large image collections and enable fast search, even on hundreds of thousands or millions of photos.
How does search work?
You search by IPTC keywords, folder and file names, or dates. Automatic object and face detection further enhances searches without requiring manual tagging.
Do I need to copy my photos to each device?
No. Damselfly is a server service with a web interface: your photo library is accessible from any device, without duplicating the catalog locally.
Are my photos analyzed by a third party?
No. Everything is hosted on DINAO's infrastructure in France. Object and face detection runs on your instance; your images never leave to any third-party photo cloud.
Can I retrieve my images and catalog?
Yes. Your original files remain yours, and Damselfly is open source. You can export and migrate without proprietary lock-in.
