Overview

What is Colanode?

Colanode is an all-in-one collaboration platform, open source (Apache 2.0) and local-first, designed for self-hosting. It combines real-time messaging like Slack, rich text document pages like Notion, and customizable structured databases — table, kanban, calendar views — within a single workspace.

Its local-first architecture stores data client-side first, then synchronizes it, with conflict-free merging thanks to CRDTs (Yjs). Result: the application remains smooth and usable even offline, on the web as well as on the Electron desktop client. File management and sharing complete the experience.

On the technical side, Colanode relies on PostgreSQL with the pgvector extension, Redis/Valkey, and local object storage or S3-compatible storage (MinIO). It integrates semantic search and an AI assistant based on an external language model, all deployable via Docker Compose or Helm/Kubernetes.

Prioritize a sovereign engine — Mistral AI, NumSpot, Scaleway, or OVHcloud AI Endpoints (France, GDPR) ; an international provider (OpenAI, Anthropic…) only if a specific capability requires it. How does Colanode replace Slack and Notion?

What does 'local-first' mean?

Your data is first stored locally, then synchronized with the server. You continue to work offline, and changes are merged without conflict (CRDT technology). It's faster and more resilient.

Does the AI assistant send my data outside?

Colanode's AI assistant and semantic search rely on an external language model called via API. Your content remains hosted in France, but requests sent to the AI pass through the configured LLM provider. See the sovereignty note below.

Do I need technical skills?

No for usage: the interface is ready-to-use on web and desktop. DINAO handles installation, PostgreSQL, object storage, security and updates.

Can I change plans or export my data?
