Overview

What is Budge?

Budge (BudgE) is a self-hosted personal finance application based on the envelope budgeting method, inspired by tools like Aspire Budgeting, Buckets, and Budget Zero. It helps you allocate every euro to a category and track your spending closely.

It manages bank accounts and transactions, credit cards and their payments, tracking accounts, as well as the monthly carryover of envelope balances. The CSV import / export feature allows you to integrate your existing statements and retrieve your data at any time.

Budge is multi-user, enabling shared management within a family or team. The project is in active development (alpha status) and deploys easily via a Docker image maintained by LinuxServer.io.

You might be wondering…

What is envelope budgeting?

It's a method where every available euro is allocated to an 'envelope' (rent, groceries, leisure…). You spend from these envelopes and carry over balances from one month to the next, giving you a clear and forward-looking view of your finances.

Does Budge connect to my bank?

No, no bank connection is required. You enter your transactions manually or import them via CSV. Your statements stay on your instance, with no transmission to a third-party aggregator.

Can I share my budget with my family?

Yes. Budge is multi-user: several people can manage the same budget, each with their own access, depending on your plan.

Where are my financial data hosted?

On the DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your data never leaves the country.

Can I retrieve my data if I leave?

Yes. Your transactions are exportable in CSV format at any time — no proprietary lock-in.
