bknd is a lightweight and portable backend, presented as an alternative to Firebase, Supabase, and Appwrite. Built on Web standards, it brings together a database, authentication, media management, and a workflows engine, all controlled from a visual admin interface.
Its key strength is portability: bknd is designed to run almost anywhere — Node.js, Bun, Deno, Cloudflare Workers, Vercel, Netlify, AWS Lambda — and can even run directly inside web frameworks like Next.js, React Router, or Astro. An REST API is automatically generated from your schema.
bknd is aimed at developers and product teams who want to get started quickly without assembling all the backend plumbing themselves, while keeping an open-source project they control and evolve.
