What is Bichon?
Bichon is an email archiving server written in Rust. It synchronizes with your IMAP accounts (via password or OAuth 2.0), stores your messages locally in compressed and deduplicated EML format, then indexes them for fast full-text search. Designed for long-term preservation and unified multi-account search, it runs entirely offline and without telemetry.
The tool reconstructs conversations (threads), allows downloading attachments, organizing messages by labels, and filtering by date, size, or sender. Hash-based deduplication and compression reduce storage space while preserving the entirety of your exchanges.
For enterprise use, Bichon offers multi-user management with roles and access control, a documented REST API (OpenAPI) protected by token, optional encryption, and deployment as a single binary or in a Docker container.

You might be wondering…
Does Bichon replace my email client?
No. Bichon does not send or receive your daily emails: it synchronizes with your existing IMAP accounts to keep a readable copy. Your email client continues to work normally.
Can I archive multiple email accounts?
Yes. Bichon synchronizes multiple IMAP mailboxes simultaneously, via password or OAuth 2.0, and offers unified search across all your accounts.
Where are my archives hosted?
On DINAO's French infrastructure, in one of the available data centers. Your messages never leave the territory.
Are my emails usable by other tools?
Yes. Messages are stored in open EML format and accessible via a token-protected REST API. You can export your archives at any time, without vendor lock-in.
Do I need technical skills?
No for usage: the web interface is ready to use. DINAO handles installation, security, and updates. A technical team can still leverage the API.
