Overview

What is ArchiveBox?

ArchiveBox is an open-source tool for self-hosted web archiving. From a list of URLs — entered manually, imported from your bookmarks, RSS feeds, or browser exports — it creates a local and durable copy of each page in several open formats : HTML, PDF, screenshot, WARC archive, media, and text.

The goal is to combat the disappearance of online content (« link rot ») by preserving a faithful and durable version of the sources that matter. The resulting files remain readable independently of ArchiveBox, ensuring the longevity of the archive and facilitating full-text search.

ArchiveBox is designed for researchers, journalists, legal professionals, monitoring teams, and any organization that needs to document and preserve web evidence. It can be automated via the command line and an API, and offers a web interface to browse and search the collection.

What exactly does ArchiveBox preserve?
